WASHINGTON — The lone Republican serving the National Labor Relations Board has threatened to resign in an effort to cripple proposed changes to labor law set for a vote next week, a report in the New York Times said.
If Brian E. Hayes, the only Republican member of the board, follows through on his threat to resign, the board would be left with only two members — fewer than required to effect changes in labor law.
As reported previously in SN, business leaders are concerned that the proposed labor law changes — which would speed the union-election process — would create an unfair playing field, biased against business. The NLRB said it would vote on the measures Nov. 30.
