CHICAGO — Ethnic foods have a strong presence at the Private Label Manufacturers Association's annual show here.

A variety of Hispanic private-labels from Wal-Mart, Target, Publix and other retailers were merchandised in Viva Latino, PLMA's first-ever Hispanic pavilion.

Among the products on display: Mojo marinade from Publix; frozen burritos under Aldi's Casa Mamita brand; whole green chilies, Smart & Final's Montecito brand; and a malt beverage from Winn-Dixie's El Sabor De Tu Pais (the flavor of your country) brand.

"Retailers and vendors are committed to the Latino buyer," Sharon Davis, PLMA's director of show development, told SN.

Likewise, several ethnic products were among the winners of this year's PLMA's Salute to Excellence Awards, which recognize innovative store brands. Salute to Excellence award winners include Target's Archer Farms Korean Style Barbecue Slow Cooker Sauce; Price Chopper's Central Market Classics' Ancho Chipolte Pork & Barbecue Rub; and Publix’s Coco Rico (rich coconut) yogurt.
