Peapod Targets Commuters in Philly Launch

SKOKIE, Ill. — Peapod is supporting its Peapod by Giant launch in the Philadelphia market with a smartphone application that works in concert with billboard advertising at area commuter train stations.

The smartphone app can be activated by scanning the QR code — and the items — appearing on Peapod billboards at SEPTA train stations. Brands including Coca-Cola, Stroehmann and Procter & Gamble have partnered with Peapod to reach on-the-go- consumers this way.

Once in the application, shoppers can browse thousands of items, just as they would in a brick-and-mortar grocery store.

“At Peapod by Giant we want to make it easier to grocery shop anywhere any time — even while waiting for the train. Using their smartphones or tablet computers, customers can shop for great products from Giant in a new way," Mike Brennan, chief operating officer for Peapod, said in a statement. "We chose Philadelphia to launch this initiative because it's a new and exciting market for us.”

Peapod said it would also provide free delivery for 60 days and $20 off the first order for shoppers using the promo code PHILLYRAIL. The billboards were placed through the transit advertising firm Titan, which has been the advertising partner of SEPTA trains serving Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.
