ZAANDAM, The Netherlands -- Ahold here said last week it will hold a worldwide promotion in all of its 6,000 supermarkets and hypermarkets in 23 countries. The two-week promotion, already under way in The Netherlands, is scheduled to start in the rest of the world, including the U.S., Sept. 25.

Ahold stores in Europe, the U.S., Latin America, Central America and Asia are participating in the promotion to leverage Ahold's global scale of approximately $43.2 billion in annual sales.
International Ahold suppliers have contributed special products to the promotion, on offer in practically all 23 countries Ahold has operations in. The promotion is supplemented with a great variety of products from local suppliers, as well.
Gerard van Breen, senior vice president, Ahold global sourcing, said, "The enthusiasm of our suppliers is very encouraging. They contributed quality items at a highly attractive promotional price which we pass onto our stores, who in turn pass it onto our customers.
