WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. -- Attendees at the GMA Executive Conference here last week wet their whistles at the evening receptions while their golf shoes were drying out after a couple of soggy days on the links at The Greenbrier resort. Despite scattered showers, the sun broke through enough for some sporting competition and top-to-top meetings, both outdoors and in. Speakers at the conference included documentarian Ken Burns, who underlined the importance of diversity in America and the strength of U.S. culture, and Karen Hughes, the former White House communications director, who described how her approach to crafting the messages of President George W. Bush could be adapted to the world of corporate communications.
