LOS ANGELES -- Arden Group, parent company of Gelson's and Mayfair Markets here, reported increased earnings and decreased sales for the second quarter and 26 weeks ended July 1. Net income rose 34.7% for the 13-week quarter to $2.25 million and 65.8% for the half to $3.7 million. Sales -- including volume in the prior year from GPS Pool Supply, which was sold in May 1994 -- fell 2.1% for the quarter and 3.6% for the half.
