LOS ANGELES -- Arden Group here, parent company of Gelson's and Mayfair Markets, said net income for the first quarter ended April 2 fell 49% to $547,000. ales increased 4.8% to $63.2 million. Sales volume at the eight Gelson's and four Mayfair Markets, which account for 96% of company sales, increased 5%. Arden attributed a portion of the sales increase to the timing of Easter and Passover holidays, which fell near the end of the first quarter this year but in the second quarter in 1993. ...
