LOS ANGELES -- Arden Group here, which operates 16 Gelson's and two Mayfair supermarkets in Southern California, reported a 15% increase in first-quarter net profits of $3.8 million over the year-ago period. Sales for the 13-week period, which ended March 30, increased 5.8% to $100.6 million. Same-store sales increased 4%.
