Supervalu-owned bigg's Hypermarket joined an organic baked-goods company in mid-November to promote Prevent Child Abuse America, an organization that helps parents and foster parents get the skills and knowledge they need to safely raise kids. The two-day event was held at three bigg's units in Mason and Cincinnati, Ohio, where the retailer operates redesigned stores with expanded wine, international foods, natural foods and fresh organic produce departments.
“I give them a lot of credit. They're entrepreneurs in this area,” said Annie Bennett, chief executive officer of My Family Farm, the natural and organic cookie and cracker maker that partnered with the retailer.
The same might be said for the retailer's sense of community involvement. Over two days, My Family Farm set up kiosks with information about Prevent Child Abuse America, suggestions for consumer involvement in PCA activities, and samples of the Fort Thomas, Ky.-based company's products.
“They've also given us great endcaps and nice displays outside of our PCA activities,” Bennett said, adding that bigg's has become a reliable booster for home-grown companies like My Family Farm. “They're really into promoting local products.”
