The Good Housekeeping Institute, in conjunction with Good Housekeeping magazine, has placed its seal of approval on about 150 products spanning multiple product lines since its inception in 1900.

Pasta Bowls Added to Frozen Meals Line

AUSTIN, Texas -- Michael Angelo's Gourmet Foods, Inc. here has added Pasta Bowls, combinations of pasta with vegetable and meat sauce toppings, to its line of frozen meal solutions.

The new line features Angel Hair Pomodoro, Pasta Primavera, Chicken Milano, Chicken Rosemary and Italian Sausage styles. The items come in an easy-to-heat bowl that can microwave or bake in minutes and are available in the freezer section of retailers nationwide.

Kosher Frozen Products Judged at Show

SECAUCUS, N.J. -- Frozen foods were a growing component of the annual KosherFest trade show, held here in November. The results of the judging of best new products included the following frozen items:

Tiramisu from Bettimi Cakes, North Miami, Fla., won first place as a frozen Passover food, while pierogies by Frankel's Homestyle Products, Brooklyn, N.Y., took second.

Frozen product winners in the year-round category from a kosher ethnic supplier were: first place, Country Apple Tart, from Judy's Country Tarts, Montreal, Canada, represented by Quality Frozen Food, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Tuv Taam, Brooklyn, N.Y., blintzes, second place; and The Cake Stylists, Maspeth, N.Y., tiramisu, third.

Frozen year-round products from a mainstream supplier that won were: in first place, Boston Coffee Cake, from The Original Boston Coffeecake, Woburn, Mass., and, second, sorbets from Ciao Bella Gelato, Irvington, N.J.

Rich Frozen Waffles Gets New Owners

LAKE CITY, Pa. -- Using an employee stock ownership plan, Lake City Associates here, formerly part of Rich Products Corp., based in Buffalo, N.Y., acquired Rich's manufacturing facility here along with its long-term manufacturing contracts, to continue to produce frozen waffles.

The transaction also included manufacturing assets from the plant here, as well as in Nashville, Tenn., and all related assets of the Rich Frozen Waffle business.

The 175 associates of Lake Shore, headed by CEO Bob Sok and Garry Rausch, president, partnered with VM Equity, Chicago, in the acquisition.

According to Marty Clunan, vice president of marketing and sales, major private-label frozen waffle customers include Stop & Shop, Quincy, Mass.; Demoulas & Market Basket, Tewksbury, Mass.; Giant Foods, Landover, Md.; Michigan wholesalers and retailers Meijer's and Spartan Stores and Roundy's in Pewaukee, Wis.; Marsh Supermarkets, Indianapolis; TopCo (Food Club); Stater Bros., Colton, Calif., and ShopRite stores, through their cooperative, Wakefern Food Corp., Elizabeth, N.J.
