BJ'S SALES RAINED OUT

NATICK, Mass. - A rainy month of June in the Northeast contributed to a 6% decline in store traffic and negative comparable-store sales during June for BJ's Wholesale Club, the retailer here said.

e. The retailer now expects earnings of 37-40 cents, vs. previous estimates of 43 to 47 cents.

Food sales fell by 2% and general merchandise by 3% during June on a comparable basis. Comps last June increased by 4.3%. The company said sales were down in New England, metro New York and Mid-Atlantic markets, and increased in upstate New York and in the Southeast.

For 22 weeks ending July 1, sales of $3.36 billion increased by 6.1% from the same period in 2005, with comparable store sales up 1.6%.
