As cola drinkers go, San Franciscans mirror national consumers. The top three U.S. brands -- Coca-Cola Classic, Pepsi Cola and Diet Coke -- are the top three brands in the Bay area with nearly identical market shares. When it comes to U.S. market share by class of trade, the food channel dominates at 87%, with drug and mass channels neck-and-neck at 6.6% and 6.1%, respectively. In terms of pricing, Target Greatland was steady across all three brands. Longs Drugs had 99-cent specials on Coca-Cola Classic and Diet Coke, while Safeway was promoting Pepsi Cola at the same price.
