Supermarkets in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area kicked off Super Bowl Weekend with hard-hitting beer promotions. Area stores lined up endcap and lobby displays, and price was the game plan: Winn-Dixie cut Miller Lite from $7.08 to $6.28 for 12-pack cans. Publix dropped Budweiser and Bud Light from $7.67 to $6.39. Sharpest cut of all -- Xtra Superfoods slashed Miller Lite from $7.17 to $5.98. Area supermarkets sold $121.3 million worth of beer in 1994; it is a $5.1 billion category in supermarkets nationwide.
