WASHINGTON -- Production of broilers and turkeys is expected to increase in 1996 and continue to rise in 1997, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture here.

Broiler production for the first quarter increased 7% over last year, and broiler meat production in April was about 16% higher than in 1995, the report said. A 4% to 5% increase was predicted for the second quarter, with total production for the year weighing in about 6% higher than in 1995.
Turkey production increased by 6% in the first quarter but is expected to grow by only 2% in the second quarter, with the total year's production estimated at approximately 5% over 1995.
