BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Bruno's here said last week it will change the closing date of its fiscal year to the Saturday closest to Jan. 31. Previously, Bruno's fiscal year has ended on the Saturday closest to June 30. The company said it will report results for an abbreviated fiscal year ending Jan. 27 and will begin its new fiscal year Jan. 28. Bruno's said a January year-end is "more convenient, given seasonal activity. It is also more consistent with other retailers and will facilitate easier year-to-year and peer group comparisons." In addition, the company said the change is intended to mark the beginning of a new era at Bruno's under its new ownership. Bruno's was acquired last summer by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., New York.
