BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Funeral services have been held here for Burt P. Flickinger Jr., who died April 21 at the age of 70.
nvolved in the grocery industry. His son, Burt Flickinger 3rd, is currently managing director of Retail Reach -- a consulting firm with offices in Chicago, New York and Westport, Conn. -- which is an alliance between Spectra Marketing Systems and Reach Marketing.
Burt Flickinger Jr. spent more than 30 years at S.M. Flickinger, the locally based wholesale distribution business founded by his grandfather. At the time the company was sold to Scrivner, Oklahoma City, in 1984, he was senior vice president of the Northeast group, after heading the company's Buffalo division as president for five years. (The former Flickinger company became part of Fleming Cos. when Scrivner was sold to Fleming in 1993.) Flickinger remained active in the industry as senior vice president emeritus of government affairs for Scrivner until 1991. Flickinger was also a past chairman of the New York State Food Merchants Association.
Flickinger is survived by his second wife, Mary; two daughters, Molly and Catherine; and son Burt Flickinger 3rd, from his first marriage; three stepchildren; seven grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
