imply Lite Foods here has formulated a Starlite mint that contains 50% fewer calories than sugar hard candies.

In addition, the company has introduced two low-fat, reduced-calorie and sugar-free toffee products. Butter Toffee, branded as a Sweet'N Low product, has 65% less fat and 50% fewer calories than the leading butter-toffee brands.

Toffees and mints come individually wrapped in separate 2.75-ounce pegged bags, priced at about $1.29 to $1.49.

Tootsie Roll XL Goes Long

CHICAGO -- Tootsie Roll Industries here has rolled out a 1-ounce, 10-inch-long Tootsie Roll at a 25-cent suggested retail price.

Tootsie Roll XL is nationally available now. A prepacked shipper display holds 360 pieces.

In holiday news, the vendor is introducing Mutant Fruitants for the upcoming Halloween season. The lollipops change colors, flavors and textures as they are consumed. Each pop has a blue raspberry and cherry-flavored hard candy shell that transforms into a tangerine and lime soft fruit center.

Shipping in early August, the 13.25-ounce bags will sell for about $2.09.

Christmas will herald the introduction of a Tootsie Roll Pops Collector's Tin. This is the first offering of a collectible tin in the 66-year history of Tootsie Roll Pops.

Each tin will contain a 12-ounce bag of assorted Tootsie Roll Pops and will be priced at $4.59.

Topps Puts New Spin on Lines

NEW YORK -- Topps Co. here has added new products, re-energized flavors, and updated logos and packaging within its core brands.

The Bazooka bubble-gum line will be expanded this month to include Bazooka Blasts, a new soft bubble gum with Super Flavor Crystals. New flavors include Cherry Berry, Fruit-Rageous and Watermelon Whirl.

Each five-piece package will carry a 45-cent average retail price.

Also this month, the Ring Pops lollipop line will feature six new flavors: Sour Green Apple, Koo-Koo Kiwi Strawberry, Cherry Splash, Grape Rage, Citrus Cyclone and Watermelon. They will continue to sell for about 40 cents each.

Topps' Push Pops will follow the other candies' lead, with new flavors such as Rockin' Raspberry Lemonade and Melon-Mango Mania.

The product container will include a new pen-style clip, which will cap the familiar cylinder.

Revamped Push Pops will average about 45 cents at retail.

Intense Velamints Offered

CHICAGO -- Ragold Inc. here has launched Intense Velamints, a line of power mints.

Available in peppermint, wintergreen and spearmint varieties, each Intense Velamint is 10% bigger than the original Velamint.

They come individually wrapped in 3-ounce hanging bags with a $1.69 suggested retail.
