Pantyhose and nylons have decreased significantly in the food channel during the most recent 52-week period, down 15.32% to $137.8 million. Dollar sales in this category have declined steadily over the last few years for the food channel, falling 14.6% in 2002 and 15.62% in 2003.
Changes in the category have not only impacted the food channel: Drug store sales of pantyhose and nylons also showed declining dollar sales over the last couple of years, dropping 12.39% for the latest 52-week period on top of decreases of 7.14% in 2002 and 14.29% in 2003. Retailers in the food channel may be filling some of that void with the sales of tights and socks, which increased 5% in dollar sales for the most recent 52-week period.
