Razor sales, which exclude disposable razors and replacement blades, increased 40.51% for the 52 weeks ended June 13 in the food channel alone over the previous year, bringing sales to $80.5 million. With higher price points on many razor systems, dollar sales reflect that; unit sales for the same time frame also increased 27.91%.
Supermarkets control a larger share of dollars in the razor category, but dollar store sales for the same 52-week period were up more than the food channel, increasing 41.73% to $67.6 million in sales. Dollar sales for the complete food, drug and mass category increased 36.03% to $186.8 million.
In the 52 weeks ended Dec. 28, 2003, supermarkets saw a 12.91% increase in dollar sales to $64.3 million, and drug store sales increased 21.03% to 56.3 million. In 2002, the supermarket channel declined in this area, and drug stores saw marginal growth.
