Sales in the category as a whole grew almost 10% to just under $90 million in the food channel during the latest 52 weeks ended June 13. Shaving lotion, cologne and talc products fueled most of that growth with a 10.32% gain. Men's gift packs pushed category sales figures up by 4.26%.
The category has been trending up recently, showing sales gains in the food channel of 5.27% for the 2002 calendar year and 21.67% for the 2003 calendar year.
Sales in the drug category declined slightly for shaving lotion/men's fragrance, less than 1%. However, the channel dominated the category with $195.6 million in sales for the most recent 52-week period. The drug channels also showed an upward trend in 2002 and 2003, but the growth was a smaller percentage of total sales.
