DALLAS -- Fresh America Corp., based here, has named Colon Washburn chief executive officer, as part of a "strategic initiative" launched after the failed $100-million merger plan between the company and FreshPoint Inc., also based here.
k. Prior to that, he held a number of positions during a 22-year career with Wal-Mart, also based in Bentonville.
In his new role, one of his responsibilities includes the implementation of other aspects of the initiative, which emphasize a stronger focus on the distribution and sourcing of produce within the retail sector, as well as a new marketing program aimed at increasing the company's position in the areas of value-added and custom-pack products.
