In our last issue, the Center Store feature profiling changes in the baby food category (“Growing Up,” WH, Fall 2007) focused on shelf-stable and frozen food products. Readers should also know that fresh refrigerated items are also on the market, and represent another fast-growing component of this category. Homemade Baby, Culver City, Cailf., pioneered the use of the “Fresh Chill” cook-chill process to retain the nutrients, flavors, colors and textures of the company's three lines: So Smooth, Good Mushy and Kinda Chunky. All products are certified USDA organic, are kosher, and are free of GMOs. Each ingredient in every package can also be traced back to the field using the company's Meal Integrity System, which organizes and documents production batches. Homemade Baby products are currently available in Whole Foods Market, Wegmans Food Markets and Target, among others.
