KULPSVILLE, Pa. -- During a two-month fund-raising drive in conjunction with Food For All, Clemens Family Markets here raised $7,000 that it donated to three local hunger-relief organizations -- North Penn Meals on Wheels, Indian Valley Housing Corp. and Indian Valley Opportunity Center.
"This is our first time working with Food For All," said Chriss Ruth, Clemens' merchandising specialist. "The money raised is truly a testament of our customers' commitment to the well-being of their communities. We anticipate even more success with the program next year."
The fund-raiser, called "Hunger Knows No Season," was conducted from from May 14 to July 9. The donations were made at the checkout register through the purchase of $1, $3 and $5 donation cards. All 20 of the Clemens supermarkets in the Philadelphia area, as well as three of their specialty markets, called Foodsource, participated. The three organizations directly receive 90% of the donations.
Although the Food For All alliance is newly forged, Clemens has conducted anti-hunger drives in the past. "We've worked with Philabundance, a hunger charity," Ruth said. "We'll be back with them for the holidays this year."
Food For All, Falls Church, Va., operates similar point-of-purchase programs in over 8,000 supermarkets nationwide. It will kick off its holiday campaign on Oct. 23.
