WASHINGTON -- President Bush met last week with members of the newly formed Fiscal Responsibility Coalition, which proceeded to launch its campaign to ensure that Congress exercises the spending discipline required in the federal budget proposed by the president.

ostly mandates on business or for regulatory red tape that strangles entrepreneurs and wastes taxpayer money."

Of particular concern to Hammonds was the declaration last week by Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) that the Senate would not allow the Bush tax cuts, and the repeal of the estate tax , to become permanent.

"Family businesses cannot plan for the future without knowing that the death tax will be permanently repealed," he said.

Also attending the meeting with Bush, and concerned about the future of the estate tax, was Tom Zaucha, president and CEO, National Grocers Association. "It is apparent that permanent repeal of the estate tax is still on the President's agenda. NGA is eager to support the administration on this issue as we feel it is one of the cornerstones to preserve a diversified, competitive marketplace," he said.
