ST. LOUIS -- Save-A-Lot here said last week that a Colorado-based licensee, Leevers Supermarkets, has expanded in the Dallas-Fort Worth market by taking over operation of eight Save-A-Lot stores there.

Four of the eight stores -- in Arlington, Fort Worth, Mesquite and Pantego -- were slated to open last week. Stores in Dallas, Garland, Hurst and a second location in Fort Worth are scheduled to open this Wednesday.

"We're pleased to open these stores so quickly following our June acquisition of the former Grocery Outlet locations," said Bill Moran, president and chief executive officer, Save-A-Lot, in a prepared statement.

The company said it plans to make aesthetic upgrades to the properties with the chain's new exterior and interior decor packages.

Save-A-Lot, which operates and licenses nearly 1,500 locations, said its licensees currently operate 30 stores in Texas; 14 of those are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
