CANCUN, Mexico -- The third Pan American Retailers Executive Conference scheduled here next month will focus on the internationalization of the food-retailing industry.

Seminar topics include "Strategic alliances and international associations" and "Competing with new store formats." The latter seminar will explore the ways membership clubs, wholesalers and, to a lesser degree, the discount drug stores are changing the traditional techniques of doing business in Latin and South America.

There also will be a two-part session on the Efficient Consumer Response initiative with a panel discussion. A number of Mexican industry leaders are expected to participate in the presentations. Registration for the four-day conference begins Oct. 28 at the Fiesta Americana Coral Beach here.

The conference is being co-sponsored by the Asociacion Latinoamericana de Supermercados (ALAS), the Asociacion Nacional de Tiendas de Autoservicio y Departamentales, A.C. (ANTAD), and the Food Marketing Institute, Washington. ALAS is a nonprofit organization of Latin American supermarket companies and ANTAD represents more than 111 chain-store operators in Mexico. FMI is the largest U.S. supermarket trade association.
