BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Cooking Light magazine's 8th annual On the Move tour has been stimulating Center Store sales for retailers across the country while educating consumers about healthy living.

The tour began in March in Richmond, Va., and will complete a bicoastal sweep that ends in Jacksonville, Fla. on November 8th.

Michelle Croteau, a spokeswoman for Lunds Food Holdings of Edina, Minn., said Lunds stores always take advantage of the interactive truck tours and have had particular success with the Cooking Light On the Move promotion, which the retailer has been participating in for three years running.

"It gets the center aisles out in the parking lot before the consumer even reaches the center aisles," she said.

The mobile magazine is a converted 18-wheeler filled with tailored kiosks, video monitors and Cooking Light representatives. The unit visits the parking lots of supermarkets in host cities, handing out coupons, recipes, brochures and samples of sponsor products.

Sponsor products this year include Jelly Belly, Hormel Melting Pot Foods, Fat Free Pringles, Sunrise Organic Cereal and V-8 Splash, among others.

According to Croteau, the tour visited four Byerly's and two Lunds stores between July 4 and July 16. During that two week period, all Lunds and Byerly's locations ran promotions cross-merchandising sponsor products.

Other participating retailers include Ukrops, Publix, Albertson's, Kroger, Bruno's and Harris Teeter.
