Fourth-quarter movies are also on the minds of cosmetics manufacturers as they gear up for holiday gift-giving.

"Celebrity links can be exciting for supermarkets, especially when targeting younger- and middle-market consumers," said Michael Graves, senior health and beauty care buyer, Associated Wholesalers, York, Pa.

Supermarkets can capitalize on prepacks, gift sets and upgraded seasonal merchandising that turn their stores into engaging environments for holiday purchases. Revlon, Del Laboratories and Coty are among manufacturers offering Christmas product to the food channel, often enticing customers with celebrity appeal and proven brands.

For example, Halle Berry, who stars as the newest James Bond girl in the upcoming release, "Die Another Day," is the centerpiece of Revlon's The Look of Jinx collection. Limited-edition items and shades include: Triple Agent Color Stick for lips, cheeks and eyes; Lash Fantasy combination lash primer-mascara; Swirl Brush in flushed pink and light berry; and Be Unforgettable Cologne Spray in a gun metal-gray bottle that resembles a female silhouette.

The 007 Color Collection also has exclusive gift sets celebrating 40 years since the first James Bond film release. This comes at a time when MGM Home Entertainment is re-releasing seven movies from its James Bond catalog.

The Looks of Bond limited-edition gift sets offer four different lip-eye-nail combos at $9 retail, named after the popular films "From Russia With Love," "The Spy Who Loved Me," "GoldenEye" and "Diamonds are Forever."

Meanwhile, Del's Sally Hansen brand is offering its successful Girls Night In and Girls Night Out gift sets, in addition to nail color promotions.

Girls Night In makes a manicure-pedicure-sleepover party possible, with eight shades of nail color, base coat, top coat, cuticle treatment, toe separators, file, nail clip, hand cream, foot scrub and even invitations. A $40 value will retail at about $10, available in prepacks of six. Girls Night Out is a pampering kit, a $19 value at a $5 retail, available in prepacks of 12.

Other Del brands also have holiday twists: L.A. Cross Festival of Color Grooming Kits and Scented Christmas Nail Boards; Naturistics Mistle Totes, Charmed I'm Sure bracelets with lip-gloss charm, Snow Buddies plush with lip gloss, Glisten Up and Glisten And Glow; and NYC New York Color City Sidewalks prepack of holiday cards plus coordinated shades of nail enamel, lip gloss and scented glitter pen.

Coty concentrates its holiday offerings on adidas fragrances and skin lotions for men and women, plus Calgon and the healing garden specialty bath gift sets.

Adidas sets for men include Clean Basics eau de toilette and hair and body wash; Action Duo eau de toilette and after shave; and On The Move eau de toilette, aftershave balm and cleansing pumice scrub, at $17.95 to $24.95 retail.
