GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- D&W Food Centers' corporate chef has been named "1998 Chef of the Year" by the Grand Rapids Chapter of the American Culinary Federation.

N, that store, locally called the "stealth bomber" because of its unique shape, brought together home-meal replacement programs that D&W had begun to fine-tune in other stores.

Prior to joining D&W, Lindrup was corporate chef at Michaels & Associates, a Grand Rapids food-service broker. A certified executive chef, she has more than 20 years in the food-service industry.

A member of the local ACF chapter for five years, ever since she moved to Grand Rapids, Lindrup was elected chapter president last fall.

"Chef of the Year" awardees are chosen based on their character and professional performance, said an official at AFC's headquarters in St. Augustine, Fla. The award goes to "the individual whose culinary expertise and exemplary dedication has enhanced the image of chefs." Each of the AFC's 300 some chapters makes such an award annually.

Lindrup told SN it's a particular honor because recipients are voted on by their peers. She also said she's pleased that she was chosen because she feels she represents the new wave of chefs -- those who have chosen to work in retail.
