MILAN, Ill. -- Eagle Food Centers here said it plans to open four new stores during April and May in the Chicago metropolitan area.

He said he expects to break ground on those two units at about the same time construction begins on the other two, with all four stores scheduled to open in April or May of 1998.
All four will be 56,000-square-foot Eagle Country Markets, a combination-store format with a pharmacy, a smokehouse for specialty meat products and in-store banks.
Eagle operates 91 stores in northern and central Illinois, eastern Iowa and northwestern Indiana. Kelly told SN Eagle is interested in expanding in the Chicago suburbs "because we see great opportunities there for us."
