HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. -- A health-oriented bakery line and a system to spray oil on baking pans won top honors from the Eastern Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association here.

The trade association presented the honors, the EDDA Tiffany Crystal Awards, at a dinner in Fort Lee, N.J. This is the fourth year EDDA has run the competition.

The winners included two bakery manufacturers and an ingredients supplier, singled out for their packaging, presentation and new product development.

Hazelwood Farms, Hazelwood, Mo., took the top award for best packaging, and also tied with Wenner Bread Products, Bay Port, N.Y., for best booth presentation at EDDA's Taste Show and Exhibition Oct. 18 to 19 in Edison, N.J.

The award this year for best new product in the bakery category went to Par-Way Tryson Cos., St. Clair, Mo. -- a manufacturer of cooking oils -- for its development of a spray system for applying oils undiluted to baking pans and other cooking surfaces.

The packaging award went to Hazelwood Farms for the packaging and merchandising tools it offers to retailers to help sell its health-oriented subcategory, Sensible Delites. The company has developed a program that includes distinctive labels, a rolling shelf display, and signs to call attention to Sensible Delites, said Carol Buskaritz, technician and sales representative, Hazelwood Farms.
