EFR GAINS IN BAR CODE USE

WASHINGTON -- More than 750 food-service product manufacturers have requested company prefixes from the Uniform Code Council to improve standard product identification, as outlined in the Efficient Foodservice Response initiative, the industry-wide, cost-efficiencies project sponsored jointly by 10 industry trade associations, including the UCC. The EFR executive committee had outlined a schedule urging manufacturers to voluntarily adopt standard product identification by the end of 2000, and UCC-compliant bar codes by the end of 2001. To date, more than 750 manufacturers have requested the prefixes, said officials.
