WASHINGTON -- The Glass Packaging Institute has called for entries for the 1996 Clear Choice Awards. The awards program, now in its eighth year, recognizes products that are successful at making glass an integral and effective part of their packaging. Glass-packaged products can be submitted in the following 11 categories: Beverage Success Story, Food Success Story, New Product Food, New Product Beverage, Beer, Distilled Spirits, Wine, Package Design, Carbonated Beverage, Non-carbonated Beverage and Mature Product Repositioning. Most Clear Choice Award entries are judged on how effectively glass packaging projects a premium image, enhances appeal, provides convenience, preserves taste and says, "quality," according to GPI executives. In the Food and Beverage Success Story categories, products -- in the glass packaging portion of total units sold -- must have increased over the previous year. All Clear Choice Awards winners receive a Steuben glass award. Also, GPI donates $1,000 to charities chosen by the winning companies. For Success Story winners, GPI donates $5,000 to the charities chosen by the winners. The deadline for entries is June 30. Judging will take place in July; winners will be notified in August. More information is available by calling (202) 736-1652.
