Food Marketing Institute, Washington, has given its Esther Peterson Community Service Award to Odonna Mathews (left), who retired as vice president of consumer affairs at Giant Food, Landover, Md., earlier this year after 33 years with the chain. The award is named after the longtime consumer adviser for Giant Food who pioneered that position in the industry. "Like Esther, Odonna served as a strong and steady voice of the consumer in the boardroom," said Tim Hammonds (right), president and CEO, FMI. Mathews is the 13th recipient of the award.
