Manhattan Bagel Names Two VPs

tan Bagel Co. here has named Rocco Fiorentino to the new position of vice president of business development and Michael E. Ryan to the new position of vice president of operations.

Fiorentino was most recently director of business development, while Ryan was most recently director of operations.

Fiorentino, who is responsible for Manhattan Bagel's growth in such alternative venues as supermarkets, was president of Specialty Bakeries, which franchised and operated Bagel Builders stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and North Carolina.

Specialty Bakeries became a wholly owned subsidiary of Manhattan Bagel Co. as a result of a merger in 1996.

With more than 16 years experience in the franchise industry, Ryan joined the company in 1995 as a district manager. He had been director of operations for Secaucus, N.J.-based T.J. Cinnamon's. He also has held management posts with Dunkin' Donuts.

Fiorentino is a member of the company's development team, which is headed by its executive vice president, Andrew Gennusa. Ryan will report to Jason Gennusa, president.

Big Y Appoints Three Executives

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Big Y Foods here has made a number of executive appointments to fill several positions that had lain vacant "for some time," said a company representative.

The chain hired John Senecal to fill the position of bakery merchandiser/trainer. Senecal came to Big Y from Stop & Shop Cos., Quincy, Mass., where he had held the position of bake shop merchandiser/trainer. Prior to his stint at Stop & Shop, Senecal held positions as bakery manager and baker at a number of retail bakery and food-service establishments. In his new position, he reports to William J. Classen, Big Y's bakery sales manager.

The chain named Thomas L. Marcotte meat sales manager. Marcotte is a Big Y veteran with almost three decades of experience with the chain. Most recently, he was meat and seafood sales and marketing merchandiser, a slot he has held since 1986. Marcotte reports to Scott R. Ruth, director of meat and specialty departments.

Guy W. McFarlane joined Big Y as seafood sales manager, moving from Stop & Shop, where he most recently had been meat/ seafood merchandiser/trainer. He reports to Ruth.
