Bashas' Names VP for Produce
s' Markets here has named Bill Romley Jr. vice president of produce, a new post. His responsibilities include oversight of produce departments in each of the 93 stores in the chain, reporting to Mark Barnett, senior vice president of sales and merchandising.
Prior to this, Romley was retail produce supervisor, and served as perishables warehouse manager during the construction of Bashas' modern distribution center here. He joined the chain in 1970, and has worked in many areas of produce buying and merchandising.
Boskovich Appoints Safety/R&D Director
OXNARD, Calif. -- Boskovich Farms, based here, has named Jennylynd James director of product safety/research and development.
James' new responsibilities include assisting member companies in research on sanitation, product safety, new product development, quality assurance and the implementation of sanitation and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point programs.
She succeeds Donna Garren, who has been named director of scientific and technical affairs for the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association, Alexandria, Va.
Manager Added at Chep USA
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Chep Americas has named Bob Spence general manager of produce at Chep USA here. It is a new position created to enhance the pallet-pooling company's returnable plastic containers initiative. His responsibilities include the overall leadership of the produce RPC division throughout North America. He reports to Bob Jantzen, president and chief operating officer of Chep Americas.
Spence served most recently as vice president of the Western business unit at Chiquita Brands, Cincinnati. Prior management positions were held at Chun King, Uncle Ben's and General Foods.
Additionally, the company named James A. Vangelos senior national sales director of produce, also a new position. Prior to joining Chep in 1997 as sales director, he served as head of sales at Hansen Beverage Co.
Sunsweet Elects Sales VP
PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Sunsweet Growers Inc. here has appointed Arthur Driscoll vice president of North American sales. He is responsible for sales of the company's consumer products in North America, as well as all trade marketing activities. He reports to Mike Pereira, senior vice president sales and marketing.
Driscoll has more than 20 years of experience in the packaged-goods and produce industry, most recently with Dole Fresh Vegetables, Salinas, Calif., where he was director of sales-West, and value-added sales-packaged salads. Prior to that, he worked at Coca-Cola Foods and Dannon Co.
