BOURGOINE IN NEW POST AT AG OF NEW ENGLAND

of New England here last week said Mike Bourgoine was elected to the newly created position of chief operating officer for the wholesale distributor, which is owned by independent supermarket operators. Bourgoine will be responsible for the activities of the executive team and for overseeing day-to-day operations. Prior to his election, Bourgoine was senior vice president of merchandising and logistics for the company. Before joining AG New England, Bourgoine was a partner in the 12-store Farm Fare supermarket group, and prior to that he was president of the Cressey Dockham Division of the Wettereau Co.

AG New England also said Steve Murphy has been named senior vice president of finance and administration as well as treasurer, succeeding Dick Ennis, who is retiring as executive vice president and treasurer after 21 years with the company. Prior to his promotion, Murphy, a 15-year company veteran, was vice president of finance and administration.

FORMER BRUNO'S CEO JOINS STERLING CAPITAL

NEW YORK -- Sterling Capital here said Jim Demme, former president and chief executive officer of Bruno's Supermarkets, Birmingham, Ala., has joined the company as an investment principal. The firm said Demme, who left Bruno's in January, will help Sterling expand its investments in food and related businesses. Under Demme's leadership, Bruno's went through Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization and was acquired, in a deal that closed last year, by multinational retailer Ahold, Zaandam, Netherlands.
