Oppenheimer Appoints Colee David Oppenheimer Group, a produce marketing company, has appointed Joe Cole in the newly developed position of vice president of sales and marketing. Cole, formerly vice president of North American sales and marketing for Philadelphia-based Chiquita Frupac, will oversee all sales and marketing functions, which until now have operated in tandem but were not fully integrated.

e David Oppenheimer Group, a produce marketing company, has appointed Joe Cole in the newly developed position of vice president of sales and marketing. Cole, formerly vice president of North American sales and marketing for Philadelphia-based Chiquita Frupac, will oversee all sales and marketing functions, which until now have operated in tandem but were not fully integrated. He will develop overall sales and marketing objectives, budgets and plans, and will manage their implementation. He began his produce career with Dole in 1978, where he worked in several capacities and locations. From 1984 to 1988, he was employed by Tengelmann, Dusseldorf, Germany, where he led the retailer's produce operations, buying and merchandising activities, before joining Chiquita Brands.

Dole Promotes Kern

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- Dole Food Company has announced the promotion of Larry Kern to the position of president, worldwide fresh vegetables, packaged salads and non-tropical fresh fruit. Until now, he was head of the Dole Fresh Vegetable Company, a position he held since 1993. In his new post, Kern is responsible for all company vegetable operations and will continue as head of the North America non-tropical fruit businesses, a position he was given in 1999. He will also have additional responsibilities for Dole's fruit operations in Chile.

PMA Creates Technology Post

NEWARK, Del. -- The Produce Marketing Association has created a new position of director of industry technology, and named Patrick Morris to fill it. He will act as staff liaison to a new PMA Technology Advisory Council, as well as plan and administer all technology-related projects, including those pertaining to e-commerce and coding standards. Prior to this, Morris was executive vice president for the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents, where he is credited with creating an internal technology consulting and training service for association members.
