Shurfine Names President, CEO

ne International here said James R. Barth has been elected president and chief executive officer. He succeeds Paul "Tuck" Jasper, who resigned as president and CEO after nearly seven years in that position. Jasper is now a special consultant to Shurfine's board.

Barth joins the company from Marketing Management, Inc., Fort Worth, Texas, where he was most recently senior vice president of sales and marketing.

Byerly's Senior Staff Joins Lunds

EDINA, Minn. -- With the completion of its acquisition of Byerly's here, Lund Food Holdings said it has integrated its senior management staff with that of Byerly's. The new management lineup at Lunds Food Holdings includes the following:

Jim Geisler, formerly interim vice president of operations for Lunds, has been named to the permanent position of vice president of operations for Lunds, succeeding Frank Worrell, who has left the company. Geisler oversees the eight Lunds stores and reports to Dale Riley, executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Tami Laska, previously vice president of human resources at Byerly's, has been named to the new post of vice president of human resources. She serves as a spokeswoman on labor issues for both Lunds and Byerly's and supervises recruiting, training, development, safety, compensation and benefits programs. Laska reports to Riley.

Von Martin, formerly vice president of finance at Lunds, has been appointed to the new posts of senior vice president of finance and chief administrative officer for Lund Asset Management Group (the Lund family's real-estate company) and senior vice president, chief administrative officer and corporate secretary of Lund Food Holdings. Martin reports to Tres Lund, chairman, president and chief executive officer.

John Pazahanick continues as vice president of store development and real estate, but with added responsibilities for both the Lunds and Byerly's stores. Pazahanick continues to report to Lund.

Certified California Taps Amen

LOS ANGELES -- Lou Amen, president of Super A Foods here, has been elected chairman of the board of Certified Grocers of California, a member-owned cooperative here.

Amen had been chairman from 1990 through 1993. In his second go-round as chairman he succeeds Bill MacAloney, who held the position for four one-year terms but did not stand for re-election.

Jay McCormack, owner and operator of Alamo Markets, 29 Palms, Calif., was re-elected to his second term as first vice chairman, and Mark Kidd, president of Mar-Val Stores, Lodi, Calif., was elected second vice chairman.

New board members include Gail Gerrard Rice, executive vice president of Gerrard's, Redlands, Calif., and John T. Fujieki, president and chief operating officer at Star Markets, Honolulu.

Ten executives were re-elected to the board, said a spokesman for the organization.
