Pueblo International, San Juan, Puerto Rico, said last week it has named Chuck Newsom president of the retail food division and senior vice president for Pueblo and Pueblo Xtra. Newsom, who previously served as vice president and chief merchandising officer for Pueblo, succeeds David Anston, who is retiring.

Supervalu, Minneapolis, said last week it has promoted Rita Simmer to vice president of communications. Simmer is responsible for employee communications, public relations and other external communications. She joined Supervalu in 1981 as public relations manager, serving most recently as corporate director of communications.
Kmart, Troy, Mich., said last week it has named Jim Defebaugh as vice president and secretary. Defebaugh will succeed Nancie LaDuke, who will resign form the position Feb. 1. Defebaugh joined Kmart in 1983 as a commercial law attorney and was named divisional counsel in 1992. LaDuke served Kmart for 23 years.
Bashas' Stores, Chandler, Ariz., said last week it has named Mimi Meredith director of public relations and internal communications. Meredith previously worked for the Boys and Girls Club/Kids After School program in Hutchinson, Kan.
