Shaw's names Gannon new CEO
-- Shaw's Supermarkets here, a subsidiary of J Sainsbury, London, appointed Paul T. Gannon president and chief executive officer last week. Gannon will succeed Ross McLaren, who has retired as Shaw's CEO. Gannon will also represent Shaw's on Sainsbury's executive committee.
Prior to his new position, Gannon was president and chief operating officer for the New England-based chain; the latter title was an interim position that will not be refilled. He started his career with Shaw's as vice president of information technology services. Before joining the company, Gannon worked for Hills Department Stores, Canton, Mass., and as a certified public accountant at Anderson Consulting, Chicago.
Kroger Elevates Four to Senior Posts
CINCINNATI -- Kroger last week named four veteran executives to key positions. Robert E. Zincke was named senior vice president of the company, with responsibility of several retail divisions. The 38-year Kroger veteran most recently was president of Kroger's Southwest Division, overseeing 212 stores in Texas and Louisiana. Succeeding him in that position is William H. Breetz, who had been executive vice president of that division for the past two years and is a 30-year Kroger veteran.
Also, Darrell Webb was named president of Fred Meyer Stores, Portland, Ore., which operates 133 stores in five western states. He most recently was president of Kroger's Quality Food Centers division in Washington and Oregon. Kroger said a successor at QFC would be named at a later date. As president of Fred Meyer, Webb succeeds Sam K. Duncan, who recently left that post to become president and chief executive officer of ShopKo Stores, Green Bay, Wis.
In addition, Michael Donnelly was promoted to senior vice president, drug/general merchandise, merchandising and procurement. He previously was group vice president.
