Danielson joined Albertson's in 1975 and held various positions in the marketing, information systems and technology, distribution accounting and retail accounting departments. He most recently was assistant treasurer.

He succeeds David I. Connolly, who retired in July after 37 years with the company, and reports to A. Craig Olson, senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer.

Smart & Final Fills Two New VP Slots

VERNON, Calif. -- Smart & Final here said it has filled two new positions that will help it pursue its corporate growth strategy.

Dennis Chiavelli has been named executive vice president of operations, and Donald Alvarado has been named senior vice president of law and development.

Chiavelli oversees operations for Smart & Final stores and its food-service distribution businesses in California and Florida. Joining the company in 1985 as vice president of the Cafe Casino restaurant division, he most recently was senior vice president of operations and property development.

Alvarado, formerly vice president and general counsel, continues his responsibilities as corporate secretary and principal legal officer and oversees the company's quality assurance department and operations in Mexico. He also manages the company's real estate, construction and maintenance activities.

Both men report to Roger M. Laverty 3rd, president and chief executive officer.

Baker's Adds Training Position

OMAHA, Neb. -- Baker's Supermarkets here has named Dale Kurtz assistant director of training in the associate support department.

In the new position, Kurtz is responsible for designing and implementing training and management development programs. She also will develop a staff to train in-store associates. She reports to Linda Thordsen, director of associate support.

Kurtz joins Baker's from Whataburger Inc., Corpus Christi, Texas, where she was manager of training and program development.

Fred Meyer Names Director

PORTLAND, Ore. -- David J. Johnson was elected to the board of directors of Fred Meyer Inc. here.

Johnson has been chairman and chief executive officer of Red Lion Hotels since 1991. He previously served as general partner of Hellman & Friedman investment firm and was president, chief operating officer and director of Dillingham Holdings, both in San Francisco.

Two From Golub to Be Honored

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Two executives from Golub Corp., the parent company of Price Chopper Supermarkets here, will be honored next month for their service to the industry.

Lewis Golub, chairman and chief executive officer, and Neil Golub, president and chief operating officer, will receive the 1996 Legends of the Industry award. The award will be presented during a New York State Food Merchants Association-New Jersey Food Council Trade Show and Convention ceremony Oct. 7.

The award recognizes the Golubs' achievements in business and community service and their family's tradition of business excellence.
