Ukrop's Changes All in the Family

r Markets here said Robert S. Ukrop has been named chief executive officer of the company. He succeeds his brother, James E. Ukrop, who was elected chairman.

Joseph Ukrop, who founded Ukrop's 61 years ago with his wife, Jacqueline, has been named chairman emeritus. The changes take effect Aug. 3.

Robert Ukrop has been president and chief operating officer since 1994. In his new role, he will be responsible for all supermarket operations, including logistics.

James Ukrop, who has been CEO since 1974, will oversee food manufacturing, and will continue to be involved in Ukrop's real estate activities, diversity initiatives and non-supermarket operations, the company said.

Fleming Taps Abco President

PHOENIX -- Fleming Cos., Oklahoma City, said Jeff Little has been named president of Abco Markets here.

Little succeeds Ed Hill, who has retired. Hill, who had been the chain's president since it was founded in 1984, was part of the buyout group that acquired the former Alpha Beta stores here to form Abco.

Little spent 21 years with Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. in a number of merchandising and operations positions and seven years with Haggen's, Bellingham, Wash., as senior vice president, operations. He joined Fleming's retail group as vice president, marketing, in January.

No successor has been named to Little's former position. Little will report to Tom Zaricki, senior vice president of the Fleming retail group.

Scott's Stores' Reitz Retires

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Bill Reitz, president and chief executive officer of Scott's Food Stores here, retired last week.

A 46-year supermarket industry veteran, Reitz began working at Scott's in 1962, where he held various management positions. In 1967, Reitz and his wife, Caroll, founded their own retail food company, Reitz Foods. Reitz Foods had grown to four stores by 1978, when it merged with Scott's. Before his retirement, Reitz worked closely with Nick Ciocca, who was named general manager and executive vice president of the company.

GMA Elects Four Officers

WASHINGTON -- Four food industry leaders have been elected officers of the board of directors of Grocery Manufacturers of America here.

Arnold G. Langbo, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Kellogg Co., was elected chairman. Robert E. Rich Jr., president of Rich Products Corp., was elected vice-chairman. Kenneth L. Wolfe, chairman and CEO, Hershey Foods Corp., was elected treasurer. Joe M. Weller, chairman and CEO, Nestle USA, was elected secretary.

Richfood Names Stokely Chairman

RICHMOND, Va. -- Richfood Holdings here said president and chief executive officer John E. Stokely has been named to the additional role of chairman of the company's board. As chairman, Stokely succeeds Donald D. Bennett, who has been chairman since 1995 and was president and CEO from 1990 to 1995. Bennett will remain a director of the company and will hold the title chairman emeritus, Richfood said.
