Burke is responsible for the development of relevant programs, initiatives and communications with industry associations and conventions, as well as other customer-development initiatives, including The Coca-Cola Retailing Research Council.

He had been director of supermarket chain accounts for Coca-Cola. He reports to Carla R. Cooper, vice president of the customer marketing group.

GMA Elects Coke CEO to Board

WASHINGTON -- The board of directors of the Grocery Manufacturers of America here has elected M. Douglas Ivester, chairman and chief executive officer of Coca-Cola Co., Atlanta, to its board.

James Kilts, president and chief executive officer of Nabisco, Parsippany, N.J., has also been elected to GMA's board, the association said in a statement.

Heineken Adds Operations VP

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Heineken USA here has named Andrew Thomas, vice president for operations planning, a new position.

Thomas held the position of director of operations planning, and was a member of the Market Research team at Kraft Foods before joining Heineken in 1995. He reports to Michael Foley, president.

Reynolds Named VP at Gatorade

CHICAGO -- Quaker Oats Co. here has named Tom Reynolds vice president -- Availability for its Gatorade North America division.

Gatorade broadly defines its Availability initiative as one that increases distribution and consumption in hot and thirsty "on premise" channels.

Reynolds is a 17-year Quaker Oats veteran and most recently served as director for the Availability project. In 1997, Reynolds and his team delivered 7,200 new points of availability for Gatorade.

Reynolds continues to report to David B. Williams, vice president and chief customer officer for Gatorade North America.

Tessera Appoints Winemaker

GONZALES, Calif. -- Tessera Winery here has named Phil Franscioni its official winemaker. He had been a member of the team of winemakers that create Tessera wines.

Franscioni reports to Greg Fowler, vice president and senior winemaker for California wineries for the Seagram Chateau & Estates Wines Co. Seagram Chateau & Estates Wines is a division of Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, with principal offices in San Mateo, Calif., and New York City.

Tessera wines were introduced in California in April 1996 and received immediate critical and consumer acclaim. The line includes cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, merlot and zinfandel, all bearing a California appellation. The wines are now available nationally.

The name Tessera refers to pieces of glass or tile used to create a mosaic. Vineyards throughout the state are selected as sources for Tessera wines, much as different pieces of glass are chosen to make a mosaic.
