Price Chopper Appoints Four VPs

Chopper Supermarkets here has announced four vice presidential changes.

As part of a restructuring plan developed by the company, two new marketing positions have been created. Dave Henry was named vice president of marketing, and Joanne R. Gage was named vice president of consumer and marketing services.

Henry, who in his new position reports to Larry Zettle, executive vice president, first came to Price Chopper in 1985 as director of advertising.

Most recently, Henry was vice president of advertising. Under his leadership the advertising department received a number of national awards. Most recently vice president of consumer services and public relations at Price Chopper, Gage started with the company in 1983 as a food and nutrition specialist and has since been manager of consumer and public affairs, and director of consumer services and public relations.

In her new position, Gage continues to be responsible for public relations and market research. She also takes responsibility for the in-store demonstration program, corporate donations and the Price Chopper web site.

Another new position is that of Jim Folos, named vice president of bakery operations. Folos, who joined Price Chopper in 1993 and has had 38 years experience in the retail grocery business, was most recently director of bakery. He reports to John McGraw, vice president of perishables sales and merchandising.

Mark Vanderlinden succeeds Rick Smith, who has left the company, as vice president of produce sales and merchandising. Vanderlinden is now responsible for all aspects of the produce department. He also reports to McGraw.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a major in business administration, Vanderlinden first joined Price Chopper in 1994 and was most recently director of produce sales and merchandising. Before 1994, Vanderlinden, who has more than 25 years of produce experience, was produce sales manager and produce area merchandiser at Kohl's Foods. He is a member of the Produce Marketing Association and United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association.

IGA Adds General Services Slot

CHICAGO -- IGA here has named Michael L. Cutler to the new position of director of general services. Cutler reports to Larry Willis, president and chief operating officer.

In his new position, Cutler is responsible for human resources activities, including recruitment, administration, and training and development. He also oversees the implementation of training and assessment programs for IGA supermarkets and employees nationwide.

Cutler previously spent 19 years with Tropicana Beverage Group, a division of Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Bradenton, Fla., where he held various human resources positions.

IGA is a voluntary network of 3,600 supermarkets, operating in all 50 states and 21 other countries, commonwealths and territories.
