Spartan Names VP, Human Resources
M. Biondo has been named vice president of human resources at Spartan Stores here.
Biondo succeeds Robert (Bob) Morris, who resigned from the company, and reports to James Meyer, president and chief operating officer. (Meyer will become president and CEO July 15. See cover story.)
Biondo is responsible for directing the activities and strategies of Spartan's human resources department, including Spartan Stores University, communications, employment, organizational development, compensation and benefits, ProActive Consulting and diversity affairs. He continues to be responsible for facilitating the development and deployment of Spartan Stores strategic objectives.
Biondo has held several posts since joining Spartan in 1981 as a selector in the perishables warehouse. Most recently, he was director of human resources and strategy.
Supervalu Adds Investor Liaison
MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here has named Beth A. Heming director of investor relations, a new position. Heming reports to Jeff Girard, executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Heming joins the company from Musicland Stores Corp., also based here, where she was most recently director of planning and communications.
Albertson's Taps Division VP
BOISE, Idaho -- Albertson's here said Mike Clawson, manager of the company's western Washington division, has been named division vice president, with responsibility for the chain's 52 western Washington stores.
Clawson began his career with Albertson's in 1972 as a courtesy clerk and has held a variety of store and division management positions in Idaho, Oregon and Arizona. In this new post, he reports to Dennis Lucas, senior vice president and regional manager. Albertson's also said Kaye L. O'Riordan has been named vice president and corporate secretary, a new position. She was corporate secretary and senior attorney.
Paul G. Rowan has been named vice president of business law, a new position. He was director of commercial law.
Both O'Riordan and Rowan report to Tom Saldin, executive vice president of administration and general counsel.
