has named Jim Gentile president of its Northern California operating division. He succeeded Mike Patton, who is now area vice president for the Dallas-Ft. Worth region of the company.

Most recently, Gentile was senior vice president, marketing and merchandising, for Jewel-Osco, Albertsons' Midwest division. He will be succeeded by Ed Hanson.

FMI Foundation Names Chair of Industry Council

WASHINGTON -- The Food Marketing Institute here appointed Claire Regan to chair the FMI Foundation Industry Advisory Council. Regan is currently the director of public affairs at Kraft Foods North America. She succeeds Steve Hilton, the Council's first chairman. Hilton is also vice president, product quality and environmental programs, at Albertsons, Boise, Idaho.

The 30-member Industry Advisory Council provides recommendations to the Foundation Board of Trustees on food-safety programs the Foundation should undertake. The Council serves as a food-safety forum for retailers, wholesalers and suppliers.

Regan previously served as senior director, scientific and regulatory affairs, for the Grocery Manufacturers of America; as director of nutrition at the International Food Information Council; and as nutrition manager at the National Restaurant Association.
