Star Names Kelly Senior VP

ar Market Co. here has named Neil Kelly senior vice president of perishables, a new position.

In his new role, Kelly assumes some of the responsibilities of Paul Kennedy, vice president of sales and marketing.

He reports to Henry Nasella, chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Previously, Kelly was vice president of produce and floral operations for Topco Associates, Skokie, Ill.

A group of investors recently purchased Star Market Co. from American Stores Co., Salt Lake City. Star Market operates 33 units in the greater Boston area.

Red Food Fills New Post

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Red Food Stores here, as part of its consolidation with Bi-Lo, Mauldin, S.C., has named Nick LeGrand director of perishable development, a new position.

LeGrand was formerly manager of grocery merchandising at Bi-Lo. He reports to Thomas Farello, senior vice president of store operations. Red Food operates 55 units in Tennessee and Georgia, and Bi-Lo operates 195 units in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. A Bi-Lo official told SN that no units will be closed or sold due to the consolidation.

Sargento Taps Sales Manager

PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- Sargento Foods here has named David G. Krueger division sales manager. He succeeds John Boyle, who has left the company.

Krueger was a regional sales manager in the company's Northeast region. He reports to Scott Hackbarth, national sales manager.

Sargento Foods is a national marketer of shredded, sliced, snack and specialty cheeses, ethnic sauces and Asian foods.

Associated Makes Two Appointments

SALT LAKE CITY -- Associated Food Stores here has promoted John Parker from meat manager for the Salt Lake City division to corporate meat specialist.

Jerry Smith has been promoted from meat merchandiser to fill Parker's former position with the retailer-owned cooperative, which serves some 700 stores in seven Western states.

Parker joined Associated Food Stores in 1983 from Vons Cos., Arcadia, Calif., where he worked for 30 years and rose to the position of vice president of meats.

Smith has been with Associated in the meat department since 1982. Before that, he worked in the meat department for several independent grocers, as well as for Albertson's, Boise, Idaho.
