J.W. Allen Appoints Chairman

liam (Bill) Allen Jr., president and chief executive officer of J.W. Allen & Co. here, has been named chairman of the board.

He will take over the reins May 2 upon the retirement of John W. Allen, who has served as chairman for 30 years. Bill Allen will assume the additional title and responsibilities of chairman while retaining his present titles. He reports to the board.

He joined the company in 1981 as director of engineering. In 1988, he was named president and chief operating officer. In 1994, he was named chief executive officer.

John Allen joined the company in 1949 as an accountant in the process foods division. Since then, he has led the company in a changing industry that saw the birth of in-store supermarket bakeries.

"In the late sixties, we anticipated the shift from retail to in-store supermarket bakeries and developed a turnkey operation to help supermarkets make the transition," John Allen said. The program included the development of quality, ready-to-use mixes, fillings and icings. In addition, the company's technicians provided assistance to supermarkets with training, production, merchandising, advertising and physical layout.

J.W. Allen Co. is a leading manufacturer of mixes, fillings, icings and frozen cakes.

Baker's Aid Adds Two VPs

SYOSSET, N.Y. -- Baker's Aid here, a division of Kerry Inc., a Beloit, Wis., manufacturer of baking and cooking equipment, has made new appointments to its management team, and has added a manufacturer's representative in the Southwest.

Carol Turgeon has been named to the new position of vice president for the Western region. Turgeon had been with Baxter Manufacturing, Orting, Wash., for 14 years. Her most recent title there was regional sales manager. In her new post, she reports to Steve Kalish, senior vice president.

James A. Kleva has been appointed vice president for engineering services. He joined Baker's Aid in December 1996 as director of engineering. He reports to Tom Daniel, president.

Mike Epperly of M.E.B.S. (Mike Epperly's Baking Services), Holdenville, Okla., has been appointed manufacturer's representative to handle Baker's Aid products in its Southwest region.
