SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Penn Traffic Co. here said it has filled two new positions on its new senior management team.

Nick Campbell has been named senior vice president of marketing for the chain, with responsibilities for sales, merchandising, procurement and advertising.

Campbell, 38, was vice president of sales and merchandising at Penn Traffic's P&C Food, Quality Markets and Insalaco divisions.

Brad Melvin has joined Penn Traffic as vice president of operations support, with responsibilities for labor scheduling and store-level efficiency programs.

Melvin, 47, was director of store operations support for Vons Cos., Arcadia, Calif.

Both Campbell and Melvin report to Phillip E. Hawkins, who was named Penn Traffic president and chief executive officer in April.

"Campbell and Melvin have both demonstrated an extensive understanding of what it takes to operate a large supermarket company in the 1990s," Hawkins said. "They will be instrumental in developing and implementing the marketing and operational changes we still have to make to improve sales and cut operating costs at Penn Traffic."

Southwest Appoints President

PHOENIX -- Southwest Supermarkets here said David Green has joined the company as president and chief executive officer.

Green was president and CEO of Smitty's Super Valu here until that chain was acquired by Smith's Food & Drug Centers, Salt Lake City. After a brief period with Ralphs Grocery Co., Compton, Calif., Green returned here and ultimately took the job with Southwest.

He succeeds Jim Pack, who moved up to chairman prior to relinquishing that title earlier this month to work for Southwest's parent company, Kohlberg & Co., New York, seeking new acquisitions.

Southwest operates 37 stores here that cater to a largely Hispanic clientele.

Winn-Dixie Taps Presidents

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores here said it has appointed two division heads. Roy J. Brucato, a Winn-Dixie Stores vice president and formerly president of Winn-Dixie Louisiana, is now president of Winn-Dixie Atlanta. Brocato succeeds James R. Pownall, who is retiring after more than 42 years with the company.

R.C. (Butch) Lunn Jr., formerly retail operations superintendent, has been named president of Winn-Dixie Louisiana.

Both report to Charles H. McKellar, executive vice president.

Bozzuto's Names Sales Director

CHESHIRE, Conn. -- Dan Brock has been named retail sales director at Bozzuto's, the wholesaler based here. In this new position, Brock continues to strengthen the ties between Bozzuto's sales counselors and its retail clients, develop strategies to boost sales and profits for retail clients, and acquire new business throughout the company's marketing area. Brock was retail sales manager. He continues to report to George Motel, vice president of retail management systems.

Roth's IGA Gets New President

SALEM, Ore. -- Roth's IGA here has named Michael A. Roth president and chief operating officer. He succeeds his father, Orville N. Roth, who is now chairman and chief executive officer of the 12-store operation.
